New Requirement to Submit Immunization Data to a California Registry |
|
There is a new law that goes live January 1, 2023 that will require reporting all vaccinations provided by any provider to the state vaccine registry, CAIR2. Providers will need to join CAIR to become a reporter. Prior to this date, reporting was only mandatory for the acute hospital and community pharmacies. This reporting doesn't link with the NHSN (National Healthcare Safety Network) mandatory reporting for immunizations, so this requirement is in addition to that requirement. Submit your poster abstract for the 2022 CALTCM Summit for Excellence Now!
It is not too late to submit your poster presentation abstract for the CALTCM’s 2022 Summit for Excellence. The deadline is June 22, plenty of time to prepare your submission! The initial abstract is very brief (no more than 250 words) and your final poster data and development are not due until this year’s conference in October. CALTCM also offers support and has quality mentors available to assist you with your topic selection, writing/reviewing your abstract, and helping to create the poster. (And did we mention the top three posters are awarded prizes at the summit?!).
The range of appropriate poster content is vast, and we encourage you to consider submitting a poster on either your qualitative or quantitative research, quality improvement projects and endeavors, clinical vignettes (case studies), or grassroots/new approaches to addressing challenges in long-term care.

CALTCM Applauds Governor Newsom and Assemblymember Nazarian for Supporting Clinical Leadership in Long Term Care Medicine
AB 749 sets critical, minimal training requirements for medical directors by requiring nursing home medical directors to be certified by the American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine in response to elevating standards of care due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sacramento, CA – Governor Newsom has signed AB 749 authored by Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian (D-Van Nuys), Chair of the California State Assembly Aging and Long-Term Care Committee.
"Aging Californians and our most frail living in SNFs have been a tragic highlight of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Assemblymember Nazarian. “The standard of care is insufficient, and the standard of care did not serve the health and well- being of California’s elders during the pandemic. AB 749 increases accountability, costs the state nothing and professionalizes a position of great importance."

Lawsuit Prevention Strategies |

If you work long enough in a nursing home or senior care environment, it is quite likely that at some time you will be involved in a lawsuit. It can be a frightening and stressful experience. As with most things, understanding the process and utilizing prevention strategies can help minimize the trauma. Next week’s CALTCM Summit for Excellence offers a truly rare chance to see some of our state’s top plaintiff’s and defense attorneys in action, without you undergoing the grilling associated with being deposed or on the witness stand. A two hour session starts with an overview of the elder abuse and nursing home litigation process by William C. Wilson, Esq. Next will be a hot topic – COVID-19 medicolegal issues. Top plaintiff’s attorney Bill Artigiere and top defense attorney Dawn Phleger will then walk us through a case involving “Fall, Fracture, Pressure Ulcer, and COVID”. Lastly there will be a panel Q&A session with lots of time for questions. And if this all sounds too stressful for you, afterwards there will be a virtual happy hour so you can unwind with your colleagues.
