A Message from Dr. Janice Hoffman Simen 2024

It’s an exciting time as we kick-off CALTCM’s 50th Annual Meeting, the 2024 CALTCM Summit for Excellence, with a new slate of officers to the positions within the CALTCM board.

As immediate Past President, I look back over the last 2 years with great pride in our accomplishments. We can celebrate that our collective voice in PALTC is being heard. The Policy & Professional Service Committee's has magnified our voice with their steady interactions with CDPH. The initiation of a Behavioral Health Task Force is magnifying our efforts to improving the quality of care in our communities. CALTCM continues to longitudinally grow both financially (over $800,000 in grants), with its professional status and respect by other organizations, and with a growing membership. CALTCM is a great example of how interdisciplinary teams can work together with common interests and goals while simultaneously improving the quality of care in PALTC.

With sincere respect and gratitude to each and every member who assists with the care of older adults everyday, and your support to CALTCM as volunteer teammates, we can achieve an infinite number of goals with quality and pride.

It is not good-bye for me, it's see you later!

HSC §1261.4 (AB 749) Compliance: What Does it Take?

As required by California Legislation HSC §1261.4 all nursing home medical directors in California must be certified by the American Board of Post-Acute and Long Term Care Medicine (ABPLM). HSC §1261.4 (previously AB 749) will help ensure that every medical director in California is prepared to provide effective oversight of quality and safety in their nursing homes.

What Does it Take?

The road to becoming a Certified Medical Director starts with education.

  • CALTCM’s Leadership and Management in Geriatrics (LMG) course will help you fulfill the requirement to obtain certified medical director management hours in addition to needed CME hours.

  • The Online Core Curriculum is the first part of the Core Curriculum, covering 22 critical areas impacting PALTC leadership and management.

  • The Core Synthesis is composed of dynamic lectures, spirited role plays, case-based discussion, and small group breakouts.

Register for LMG taking place virtually on June 6-8 at: https://www.caltcm.org/learn-about-lmg-2024
