This year’s annual meeting is complemented by over 7 hours of asynchronous programming. The Critical Role of Geriatric Medicine and LTC:
Addressing the Paradoxical Challenges in our Current Healthcare System
  Speaker: Kourosh A.P. Moshiri, MHA, MD, CMD, HMDC, FACP, FACCWS, AGSF
  1. Identify the paradox of rising healthcare costs coupled with the need for improved patient outcomes, especially in the context of an aging population.
  2. Discuss the demographic shift towards an older population and the subsequent strain on healthcare resources and infrastructure.
  3. Analyze the fragmentation of care and its implications for patient continuity, quality, and overall system efficiency.
  4. Review the four components of the Quadruple Aim and illustrate how the core concepts of geriatric medicine and long-term care (LTC) can align with and support these goals to create an effective, coordinated, multidisciplinary, age-friendly, patient-centered, and cost-effective healthcare system.

  1. Examine the movement of people with behavioral health disability across institutions
  2. Define diagnostic criteria for bipolar, schizophrenia, psychosis NOS, and dementia related behavioral disturbance (How/What?)
  3. Examine benefits and limitations of current treatment for psychotic disorders
  4. Discuss utility of antipsychotics for use in aggression
