History of LMG

In 2000, the California State-funded Academic Geriatric Resource Program awarded a grant to the California Geriatric Education Center to develop and implement a conference on management and leadership skills for health professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurses in the discipline of geriatrics. The Planning Committee, under the leadership of Dan Osterweil, MD, FACP, created the Geriatric Services Management Training (GSMT), which was presented in October 2002. GSMT was later renamed Leadership and Management in Geriatrics (LMG). Since that time, we have trained 470 health professionals, keeping the enrollment small in order to maintain a high level of faculty/participant interaction. In 2016, LMG found a new home with CALTCM!

Testimonials

"Our fellows completed terrific quality improvement projects through LMG. Sending our fellows to LMG was an easy way to meet this ACGME requirement."
Nancy Weintraub, MD
Director, VA/UCLA Geriatric Medicine Fellowship
"This conference more than exceeded my expectations. The pearls I took home could make a necklace, and I am now reviewing my own clinical programs and strategic business development with a fresh viewpoint. It was the Business 101 Course for Medical Practitioners that I never got in medical school. I would highly recommend this conference for anyone focusing on a geriatric practice, whether a fellow or in private practice."
Christine M. Mlot, MD, CMD
CMO and Co-founder of GeriNet Medical Associates
"Prior to attending the March conference, our team was on track to have a $200,000 deficit by October 2008. Thanks to the guidance received during and after the conference, we ended FY 2008 exactly on budget. Our team is now much better positioned to plan for future program development, and we have significantly advanced our visibility and credibility with the medical center."
